![]() ![]() It may not be the longest or the most challenging vertically scrolling shooter around, and it can’t match the wow factor of title such as Axelay. For a kid’s platformer, it can be frustratingly difficult due to poor design, with cheap off-screen kills, hard to navigate holes in the floor and a particularly frustrating, teeth-gnashing inducing level on broomsticks.Ī mad scientist is threatening to take over the world and it’s up to boxing-gloved spaceship Twinbee (who also features in the superlative Parodius) to stop the onslaught of kamikaze pandas and marauding pineapples, amongst other wacky bad guys.Īnd this time he’s bringing her indoors Winbee along for the ride, providing a smart co-operative two-player action in this hyper colourful cute ‘em-up. Like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs may looks and sounds like the carton but this time that is about all it has going for it.Īdopting a slightly angled overhead view, akin to a side-scrolling brawler, this frantic platform game lacks the clever design and superior play mechanics of Tiny Toon Adventures. My favourite level was set in the good ol’ Wild West, with a chase inside, outside, and over a speeding locomotive. The games looks and sounds just like the show and is full of slapstick comedy moments and nods to film, including a battle with Duck Vader in a Star Wars-inspired level featuring a chase by a miniature Death Star. You play as Buster Bunny on series of madcap adventures, each level featuring its own unique story. They me be tiny and toony, but there is nothing looney about this gem of platformer featuring all of your favourite characters form Warner Bros. A particular low point being a tedious maze game at the hand of The Riddler, cumulating in an obscure question which will block your progress if you don’t get it right. Unfortunately, the rest of the game simply never really reaches these heights again and seems to run out of steam. Based around one the best episodes of Batman: The Animated Series Be a Clown, the level ends with a thrilling fight on a roller-coaster which makes great use of Mode 7. The Batmobile sections, whilst a bit wobbly, also make a nice change from all the face-pounding action.īased on the priceless animated series, this starts of well with an opening level featuring the world’s greatest detective tracking down the Joker in a theme park. And who doesn’t love to do that?!Ītmosphere is everything in this game and Konami nailed the tone of the film with truly excellent graphics and a wondrous take on Danny Eifman’s spellbinding soundtrack. It’s a single-player journey through the dark heart of Gotham as you take on the Penguin and the Red Triangle circus gang, knocking boggle-eyed clowns from their bikes and pummelling stilt-walking jugglers. ![]() Straight in with another scrolling beat ‘em-up, this time based on Tim Burton’s darkly gothic take on the caped crusader. Big chunky sprites and some decent backdrops don’t quite make up for disappointing roster of characters, which chooses some of the more obscure ones from the franchise over fan favourites Rocksteady and Bebop, Splinter, Krang, and Casey Jones, etc. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament FightersĪ decent enough one-on-one brawler, but ultimately lives in the shadow of the masterful Street Fighter II. I love the soundtrack to this game, especially the boss music and sewer surfing, of which a rocking guitar version exits on You Tube. The game packs in a decent number of levels that keep you moving from the city streets, the sewers, and then back and forward in time to the old west, a pirate ship, and a futuristic space station.Ī solid two-player mode helps provide all the Ninja Turtle mayhem you need, as you smash your way through hordes of foot soldiers culminating in a showdown with one of the famous comic book villains at the end of each level. ![]() Unfortunately, we never got to play the original TMNT arcade on the SNES but we did get this still excellent scrolling beat ‘em-up, which is the same in name only with the original lacklustre arcade sequel. ![]()
